The biggest fish I ever caught - it's no fish tale!

Since I've been working so hard lately and haven't had much opportunity to goof off, I asked Kevin if I could go out fishing for a few hours this afternoon with one of the new guides who wasn't working. So, I went out with Guy, we call him Capt. Smiley. We started with some Halibut fishing, but didn't have much luck (we missed the low tide by about an hour - we were at the lodge having lunch), so we decided to do some King Salmon fishing. On our second pass around Gedney Island, we hooked a King. It was an exciting 25 minutes of Sharon vs Mr. King Salmon before we got it in the boat, and both Guy and I were so excited we jumped around for about 10 minutes before we realized we should unhook the fish! LOL!
Guy claims it was the best fish-fight he's seen since he's been here, but he's probably just being a good guide and making that up for my benefit. When we got back to the dock around 4 p.m. and weighed it, turns out it was 22.2 lbs! Making it the biggest fish I ever caught! Whoo Hoo!!

Learning to Fly Fish

June 17, 2010 (posting a few days late!)

This afternoon was pretty nice out, weather wise, and the office was slow so I escaped to the dock for a fly fishing lesson from Dewey. Well, I can say that I was no "natural fly fisherman" but I think I got some of the basics (after 3 or 4 hours). Thankfully he took the hook off the fly first, and was very patient with me as I kept stepping on the line. Oops. Maybe tomorrow I can get another lesson...

Wildlife

June 12 -

Yesterday, the weather was terrible, fishing just so, so (However, Guy, one of new guides brought in a 106# Halibut! Can you guess what is for dinner tonight?), but the wildlife was out in full force.
I wanted to share some of the photos the guides got while out fishing yesterday.
I thought they were pretty spectacular myself. I almost wish I could have been out there to see it. (Then I remember that it was windy, rainy, and about 50 degrees! Which made me perfectly happy to sit by the warm fire and spend my afternoon reading a good book.)

Whats a girl gotta do to get a cup of Joe 'round here?

June 11th

I'm officially registering a complaint (on-line) about my ability to get a cup of coffee around here. It's true that I have to get up early - we all do. Nothing says - "good moring sunshine" like the generator kicking the lights on at 5 a.m. It's also true I can be a bit of a diva - no breakfast until the hair and make-up is done. (thanks for that lesson, mom). However, that usually puts me in the crew room about 15 minutes too late to call dibs on a coffee mug (limited supply out here in the wilderness). Then, to my dismay, when the dishwasher finially gets my favorite mug washed (or any mug, for that matter), the damn coffee is either gone, or I have to scape the bottom of the pot. (I'd make more, but mine just never tastes as good). *sigh* Guess I need to find a new way to get through the morning.....Or a super girly, rhinestone encrusted, no-man-would-ever-drink-out-of-it mug. LOL!
